Pens Caps Highlights

The Capitals are on the ice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex today at 11 a.m. Here’s a quick look inside the boxscore of the Capitals’ 6-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday afternoon at Verizon Center.:

Special teams: Mike Ribeiro netted a power-play goal in the third period, marking the sixth time in nine games the Caps have scored on the man-advantage. However, they allowed a pair of power-play goals to the Pens and have allowed 12 power-play goals in nine games, most in the NHL.

Less than Super: The Caps fell to 14-7-2 in Super Bowl Sunday games.

Another sellout: The Caps have now sold out 158 consecutive games at Verizon Center.

Crosby/Malkin: With three assists, Sidney Crosby now has 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points in 23 career games against the Caps. Evgeni Malkin picked up two assists and his totals against the Caps now stand at eight goals, 23 assists and 31 points in 21 games,

Ribby: Mike Ribeiro picked up a goal and an assist Sunday and now leads the Caps with 10 points. He has 22 points (7 goals, 1 5 assists) in 19 career games played against Pittsburgh. (most vs. any Atlantic Division opponent).

Greenie: Mike Green scored his second goal of the season and leads all Caps defensemen with five points. Green led the Capitals in ice time for the ninth straight game (25:18).

Who’s in goal? After Braden Holtby allowed six goals on 26 shots, look for Adam Oates to turn to Michal Neuvirth when the Maple Leafs come to town Tuesday night. Neuvirth made 37 saves in a 3-2 loss to the Leafs on Thursday night.

Waiting for Brooks: The Caps could have Brooks Laich back in the lineup Tuesday night against the Leafs or Thursday night against the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Laich injured his groin while playing in Switzerland during the lockout. He’s been skating with the club for the past four days.
