Caps top 5 plays of the week: 10.28.13

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin sat out Wednesday morning’s practice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex with an upper body injury. The club is listing him as day-to-day.

Center Jay Beagle also missed practice with an illness, while John Erskine was placed on long-term injury reserve.

Ovechkin did not appear to be injured in the Caps’ 3-2 loss in Vancouver on Monday night. He played 19:49 against the Canucks and was on the ice for each of the Canucks’ third-period goals.

The Caps also recalled defenseman Dmitry Orlov and center Michael Latta from the Hershey Bears.

Erskine’s assignment to LTIR is dated back to Oct. 26. He needs to miss 10 games or 24 days of action before being taken off LTIR. Erskine underwent knee surgery over the summer and told CSNWashington.com that he was about a month behind schedule when training camp began.

With a jumbled roster, Adam Oates reassembled his forward lines to look like this:

Marty Erat – Nicklas Backstrom – Eric Fehr

Marcus Johansson – Brooks Laich – Troy Brouwer

Jason Chimera – Mikhail Grabovski – Joel Ward

Aaron Volpatti – Michael Latta – Tom Wilson

We’ll have more on today’s transactions after practice.
