At a press conference in his hometown of Krasnoyarsk, Russia on Thursday Capitals right wing Alexander Semin dropped two more hints that he will be open to returning for an eighth season in Washington.
In an English transcript of his interview provided by Russian Machine Never Breaks, Semin, 28, was asked about his playing future.
I cant say anything concrete at this time, he said. Im waiting for July 1st, until the negotiations in the NHL open, for now I am unemployed.
Asked if he plans on playing in Russia or North America, Semin responded, I cant answer. I dont know.
Semin signed a one-year, 6.7 million contract with the Capitals last summer and produced 21 goals and 33 assists for 54 points in 77 games. He is expected to see what kind of interest he receives from other NHL teams, and at what price, before deciding where hell play.
When Semin was asked about his plans for the summer he hinted at playing next season in the Kontinental Hockey League.
The training starts in mid July, he said. And if I stay in Russia, Ill have to start practicing much earlier.
