Wilson's big hit sparks fights vs. Flyers
PHILADELPHIA – Since arriving in the NHL this season as a 19-year-old rookie, Tom Wilson has done a good job of walking the line between aggressiveness and overzealousness.
On Tuesday night he might have crossed that line and could pay with his first NHL suspension.
With 4:43 remaining in the second period Wilson took several strides before plowing Flyers center Brayden Schenn hard into the end boards.
Schenn left the ice holding his left wrist, while Wilson was grabbed and pressed against the boards by Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossman.
Wilson received a five-minute major for charging, a five-minute fighting major and a game misconduct.
Schenn put himself in a vulnerable position by turning away from the hit, but the NHL Department of Safety has cracked down on hits from behind this season and it would not be a surprise if Wilson received a suspension of two or more games.
