Wilson, Erskine drop the gloves in 2 big-time tilts
Fighting's future in hockey may still be debated, but boy is it fun to watch.
Friday's game between the Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs had a little bit of everything, but in the second period it featured two heavy-weight bouts that brought some energy to Verizon Center.
Tom Wilson and Carter Ashton began talking before a faceoff and as soon as the puck dropped, so did the gloves. The linesman allowed this one to continue for a good span, but when Wilson got the jersey over Ashton's head, it was over.
It was a great fight, but it turned out to be just the opening act.
A mere five seconds later, John Erskine and Colton Orr squared off in a fight that could have been featured on HBO. And they did not disappoint.
