Nothing like bringing a Stanley Cup champion back down to earth.
On the same day the Los Angeles Kings are celebrating their second NHL championship in three years with a parade through the streets of L.A., the oddsmakers in Las Vegas are making the Chicago Blackhawks favorites to win the Stanley Cup in 2015.
According to Bovada, the Blackhawks are 7/1 favorites to win the Cup after getting eliminated by the Kings in the seventh game of the Western Conference Finals this season.
The Boston Bruins are next at 8/1, followed by the Kings (9/1), Pittsburgh Penguins (10/1) and St. Louis Blues (12/1).
Brace yourself, Capitals fans.
Under new coach Barry Trotz the Caps are listed at 33/1 odds, ranking them tied for 16th in the NHL and tied for 8th in the Eastern Conference with the Toronto Maple Leafs, behind the Bruins, Penguins, Rangers, Canadiens, Red Wings, Lightning and Flyers.
That would suggest that the oddsmakers in Vegas believe the Caps will be on the playoff bubble, fighting the Leafs, Flyers (28/1) and Lightning (25/1) for a playoff berth.
Agree? Disagree? If you were to place your odds on the Caps winning the Cup next June, what would they be?
