Ovechkin scores 30th of the season with quick snap shot

Despite multiple reports that the Philadelphia Flyers will be the Capitals’ opponent in the 2015 Bridgestone Winter Classic, a league source said Monday that there have been no decisions made on the venue or the opponent for the outdoor event and an announcement is not imminent.

NationalsPark, which seats 41,888 fans for baseball, is believed to be the leading candidate for the outdoor game., which will take place on Jan. 1, 2015.

The Boston Bruins have also been mentioned as a possible opponent for the Capitals. According to a report by CSNPhilly.com, a Flyers official wondered if the Caps sent a hidden message to the Flyers by wearing their third jerseys -- the previous Winter Classic jersey – when they visited Philadelphia on Dec. 17.

If the Flyers are the Caps’ opponents, it would be their third Winter Classic. They participated in the 2010 Winter Classic in Boston’s FenwayPark and hosted the 2013 Classic at CitizensBankPark against the Rangers.
