On Fan Appreciation night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the Chesapeake Bayhawks finished out their season with a 19-13 win over the Charlotte Hounds.

Leading the way in the finale were attackman Drew Westervelt and midfielder Matt Abbott who tallied six points apiece. Westervelt scored three goals with three assists, while Abbott notched a career-best five assists along with one goal.

Midfielder Ben Hunt put in four goals of his own and also picked up an assist as the Bayhawks scored a season-high goal total.

"I thought our guys played with great energy, I thought they played with great unity, and I thought they showed that they are professionals," Chesapeake Head Coach Dave Cottle said. "This is the top level of the sport and our guys showed that they were on top of their game tonight."

Hunt started the scoring 24 seconds in. Soon after Chesapeake found themselves up 4-0 and then 6-1 before the first quarter ended. By intermission, the Bayhawks led 12-5.

Backup goalie Jack Runkel took over in the second half after Tyler Fiorito stopped 14 shots while allowing four.  Runkel finished with eight saves.

"I was really proud of how we played tonight. We wanted to play Bayhawks lacrosse and give the type of effort our fans have come to expect," Hunt said. "It's been a tough season, but we wanted to finish on a positive note. Tonight, we finally played like a championship team and that is something to build on."
