2,177 runners finish Marine Corps 17.75K

In spite of the chilly temperatures today, 2,177 runners completed the Marine Corps 17.75k earning a chance to register for the 38th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), before registration opens to the public at noon on March 27.

The 11.03 mile course traversed through the winding streets and trails of Prince William Forest Park in Prince William County, VA. 

Ryan Carroll, 30, of Portsmouth, VA maintained a steady lead throughout the event becoming the first 17.75K finisher in 59:57. Jeremy Lynch, 32, of Springfield, VA finished second at 1:05:46, while Retired Marine Lt. Col. Alex Hetherington finished in 1:06:06, rounding off the top three males. Hetherington has run numerous MCMs and is a member of the MCM Hall of Fame Class of 1995.

Rachel Booth, 32 of Mandeville, LA finished first among female runners at 1:08:25. Stephanie Wagner, 39 of Lombard, IL completed her run in 1:17:49, resulting in second place.

"That was a very hilly course and a good workout," Wagner said after she crossed the 17.75K finish. "I came here with some friends. We're going to do the marathon in the fall. I'm from the Chicago area so I'm psyched for the Marine Corps, and really glad to be coming back here in October."
