The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) broke records today selling out of all available public entries in two hours and 27 minutes according to a press release.
As runners worldwide attempted to register, they were slowed by system challenges resulting in registration delays.
“The MCM continues to celebrate the enthusiasm of the running community for ‘The People’s Marathon,’”said Director Rick Nealis.
“Unfortunately, today’s online experience is inconsistent with the organizational excellence that has become the hallmark of the Marine Corps Marathon. Everything regarding the MCM registration process will be reexamined for future years."
Despite the additional challenges of registration, a group of devoted runners were still able to secure exclusive spots in the event scheduled for Oct. 27 that spans through D.C. into Arlington, VA.
MCM's registration has rapidly increased from just under six days in 2010 to 2012's sellout out two hours and 41 minutes, 14 minutes shy of this years record.
