The Marine Corps Marathon is opening its transfer program -- allowing a registered runner to transfer his or her entry to another runner -- starting June 11.
If a registered runner cannot compete, he or she can visit www.marinemarathon.com and complete the online transfer request form by August 31. The runner will receive an email with a code, password and link to a transfer registration form to send to the person wishing to run in their place. The new runner must complete the transfer form and pay a $40 registration fee by September 23.
"The MCM's goal is to enable as many runners as possible to train for and complete the 26.2 mile marathon distance," MCM Director Rick Nealis said. "Many things can arise such as injuries, deployments, business trips or family obligations that can prevent runners from training and participating. The MCM Transfer Program provides a limited opportunity for participants to give their spot to another."
The original runner will not receive a refund of the initial registration fee. Entries may only be transferred once. If you entered the 39th Marine Corps Marathon and cannot compete, you can find hopeful runners to take your place on the Marine Corps Marathon Facebook page.
