In one of the first games of the college basketball season, Maryland comes up short in a furious second half comeback against Kentucky. Many NBA scouts paid close attention to the battle of big men Alex Len and Nerlens Noel.

In what may have been their best win of the season, George Mason defeated Virginia behind a strong game from guard Sherrod Wright. This would be the first of three eventual losses by the Cavs to teams from the CAA conference.

One night after beating UCLA, the Georgetown Hoyas take the No. 1 ranked Indiana Hossiers into overtime before falling 82-72. Sophomore Hoyas sensation Otto Porter played well in what would become his breakout season.

Maryland controlled the game from start to finish in a 69-62 win over George Mason at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Considering the Terps played a very weak non-conference schedule, the win against Mason may be the team's best non-ACC win.

The Hoyas survived a scare from Towson on their home court. The game was ugly and low-scoring but in the end the Hoyas grabbed the victory in a very tight game.

Old Dominion stunned the Cavliers with a two-point win just before Christmas. The Monarchs are in the midst of one of the worst seasons in recent history, which included a midseason firing of coach Blaine Taylor, but the win over Virgina marks the season's highlight. If the Cavs fail to reach the NCAA Tournament, many people will point to the ODU loss as the reason.

Rebounding from the dreadful performance against ODU, Virginia comes out and sets the tone by opening their ACC schedule with a win over North Carolina.

In a statement win for the Hoyas, they controlled the pace against a fast-paced pressuring defense Louisville team. This win marked the Hoyas ascension into the top tier of the Big East.

Butler came to the Smith Center to take on GW and the atmosphere was electric. The Colonials got down to an early hole to the Bulldogs, but an impressive comeback effort fell a few points short, allowing Butler to escape with the win. George Washington had a shot at the end to tie, but it didn't fall.

Two teams squarely on the bubble, Virginia looked significantly better than Maryland. The Cavs put on a clinic from 3-point land while Maryland's offense could hardly get going.

The Maryland student section stormed the court as the Terps took down the No. 1 ranked Duke Blue Devils. Alex Len put together a moster game against the Blue Devil's senior star Mason Plumlee, while freshman Seth Allen iced the game for Maryland with two free throws in the final seconds of the game.

After a humbling defeat at Saint Louis, vCU comes back to take an important road win at Xavier. The Rams signature full-court press wore down the Musketeers in the second half.

A close contest between in-state rivals, George Mason is able to fend off an upset-minded William & Mary Tribe.

Otto Porter and the Hoyas took the fight to Syracuse, and came away with their biggest win of the season. Georgetown flustered the athletic Orange with a deliberate offense and stifling defense, while Porter proved to be the best player on the court. In the last Big East game for this rivalry to be played in the Carrier Dome before Syracuse leaves for the ACC, Georgetown showed it belongs in the conversation with the best teams of the country.
