Balance lifts George Washington past Maine 108-81

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maurice Creek, a graduate student who played three seasons at Indiana, had 19 points as George Washington rolled past Maine 108-81 Tuesday night.

Creek hit five three-pointers for the Colonials (2-0), who had five players in double figures, including Isaiah Armwood and Kethan Savage with 18 points each. GW scored 100 points for the first time in eight years.

Creek once scored 31 points against Kentucky as a freshman in 2009. It was the second straight game Savage, a sophomore, scored a career-high 18. George Washington shot 54.3 percent for the game and knocked down 11 three-pointers.

Shaun Lawton paced Maine (1-2) with 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting but overall the Black Bears hit just 43.2 percent and only 12 of 24 free throws. Dimitry Akanda-Coronel added 16 points.

With Armwood, Larsen and Savage each grabbing nine rebounds, George Washington had a 49-36 advantage on the boards.
