Maryland and Georgetown may not be playing each other anytime soon, bummer, I know.Having both local college basketball powers potentially square off against Kentucky next season, not a bad alternative. We already knew the Terps would open the 2012-13 season against the Wildcats in the inaugural Barclays Center Classicin Brooklyn on November 9.Now one report has Georgetown-Kentucky as a potential matchup in this season's Big East-SEC challenge. Per ESPN's Andy Katz:"The Big East still has to decide if 14 schools will participate in the Big East-SEC Challenge instead of 12. Based on conversations with multiple sources, the highest-profile game that could occur is Kentucky at Georgetown. I wouldnt be surprised to see Louisville at Florida, Marquette at Missouri, and Tennessee at Notre Dame. But those last four appear to be more speculation at this point. The most likely matchup is UK-GU."In a general sense, any time you takeon the defending national champions, it's a juicy non-conference tilt. If the matchup occurs this season, there would be some serious heat generated from the fan bases considering top freshman recruit Nerlens Noel spurned Georgetown for Kentucky with an egocentric national television announcement that broke many a heart on the Hilltop. Yeah, this could be fun - especially if the site is the Verizon Center.
First Maryland, now GU to face Kentucky?
