Scoring a team-high 22 points and leading a thrilling comeback might have been enough of a resume to have honors flowing Sherrod Wright's way. Draining a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer sealed the deal.
Wright's heroics led George Mason to a 67-64 win over Richmond on Saturday in the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic. That earned the junior guard Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week recognition for the second time this month.
George Mason (7-4) picked up a crucial non-conference victory by closing the game with an 18-3 run. Freshman guard Patrick Holloway also connected on a 3-pointer during the final minutes before Wright's bomb from well beyond the arc broke the tie. The Patriots made their final four 3-point attempts.
Continuing his high-accuracy ways this season, Wright finished 8 of 11 from the floor, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range, while tacking on three assists and three steals. The Patriots leading scorer on the season has tallied 20 or more points in three straight games. Wright is the first George Mason player to accomplish that feat since Cam Long in January 2010.
The CAA's top 3-pointer shooter at 47.5 percent, Wright ranks fifth in scoring with 16.9 points while shooting 55.7 percent from the field.
The Patriots play at South Florida on Saturday (7 p.m.) before opening CAA play versus Northeastern on Jan. 3.
