Maryland and George Mason will meet in the 18th BB&T Classic this upcoming season. George Mason athletic director Tom O'Connor confirmed the men's basketball matchup with CSNwashington. The game is scheduled for December 2 at the Verizon Center.Anannual participantin the BB&T, Maryland previously played George Mason in 2004 with the Terps winning 78-54. This will be George Mason's fourth appearance, the last coming in 2007.Last season in the first appearance with new coach Mark Turgeon, Maryland defeated Notre Dame.O'Connor released a message to supporters of the program this week, providing updates on the Colonial Athletic Association, conference realignment and notable games on the upcoming non-conference schedule. In addition to Maryland, George Mason will face Virginia, Richmond, Bucknell and Northern Iowa. The Patriots will also be among eight teams including Connecticut and Wake Forest participating in the Paradise Jam. "We have a strategy in place that is designed to continue the elevation of our athletics program, and in particular our mens basketball program," O'Connor said in a portion of the statement. "One of our main focuses going forward is the strengthening of our non-conference schedule in mens basketball. We appreciate and understand the value of creating the right balance of strength and wins during the non-conference portion of the schedule so that we put ourselves in the best possible position for an at-large berth to the tournament."In fact, this coming season we will be playing games against Maryland, Virginia, Richmond, Bucknell, and Northern Iowa, and will participate in the Paradise Jam. This is the type of non-conference schedule Coach Hewitt and I want us to play because this is ultimately what provides non-BCS teams with at-large consideration."
