WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After earning victories against top-20 opponents in each of the last three weeks, the William and Mary football team made significant jumps in both major Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) polls this week. W&M is ranked No. 16 in The Sports Network Poll, while it is 20th in the Coaches Poll.
The Tribe is coming off an impressive 24-10 victory at then-No. 15/21 Delaware last weekend, as it snapped UD’s three-game winning streak and handed the Blue Hens their first home loss of the season.
W&M boasts one of the nation’s top defensive units this season and currently leads the country in scoring defense (12.2), while it ranks sixth in total defense (294.2), eighth in rushing defense (102.0), 10th in third down conversion defense (30.8) and 11th in passing efficiency defense (107.2). The Tribe has been especially effective during the past three games, all of which have come against nationally ranked teams that averaged more than 32 points per game, and has allowed just one offensive touchdown.
W&M will look to defeat a top-20 opponent for the fourth consecutive week when it hosts No. 10/7 Towson for Senior Day on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
