Chris Miller on the offer to Fabricio Oberto
The Washington Wizards have made a contract offer to former San Antonio center Fabricio Oberto, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Oberto, a 6-foot-10 center from Argentina, was traded to the Detroit Pistons as part of the package that brought Richard Jefferson to the Spurs in a three-team, pre-draft trade with the Milwaukee Bucks last month.
Terms of Washington’s offer to Oberto aren’t known. He was released by the Pistons after the deal was completed. Detroit remains obligated to pay $1.9 million of Oberto’s partially guaranteed $3.8 million contract.
Oberto was the starting center during the Spurs’ playoff run to the 2007 NBA title. In 274 games with the Spurs, the only NBA team he’s appeared for, Oberto averaged 3.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game.
