Russ Thaler, an original member Comcast SportsNet’s news department, exemplifies versatility and professionalism through many key roles with the network, including anchor, reporter and chief digital correspondent.

Since joining Comcast SportsNet at its inception in April 2001, Thaler regularly anchors SportsNite, the network’s daily news program. He primarily serves in this position for the show’s 6:30 p.m. broadcast, delivering the first comprehensive edition of the day’s top sports stories.

Thaler also contributes to Comcast SportsNet’s news programming as a reporter, a role that has earned him a Capital Region Emmy Award. Aside from reporting on the region’s top stories, he also leads the network’s coverage of D.C. United, which includes in-game sideline reporting.

In addition to his on-air duties, Thaler is also the chief digital correspondent for CSNwashington.com. In this role, he provides an array of content to the region’s premier source for online sports news, including daily video updates, a popular blog and feature stories.

Thaler has filled virtually every on-air position during his long tenure with the network, including two years as host of Washington Post Live, beginning with its launch in 2007. He has also served as a play-by-play announcer covering soccer and basketball and works as the public address announcer for the Washington Kastles.

Thaler joined Comcast SportsNet from Fox SportsNet, where he served as an anchor and reporter. Prior to that, he spent two years as a sports anchor and reporter for KLKN-TV in Lincoln, Neb., and WHIZ-TV in Zanesville, Ohio, where he was also the sports director.

A native of Fair Lawn, N.J., Thaler is a graduate of Emory University, where he was a member of the school’s nationally-ranked tennis team. He and his wife, Brooke, reside in Gaithersburg, Md., with their three sons, Max, Nate and Will. Thaler regularly lends support to area charities, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
