- SAN FRANCISCO - Chris Carpenter starts Game 6 of the NLCS for a Cardinals team one win from a return to the World Series. Ryan Vogelsong is on the mound for the Giants. Game starts 7:45 p.m.

- HOUSTON - The Baltimore Ravens, their defense taking a hit with season-ending injuries to Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb, play the Texans in a game between teams with 5-1 records. Game starts 1 p.m.

- MINNEAPOLIS - The Cardinals and Vikings, two of the biggest early surprises, are both coming off losses. Another defeat by one of them may undo all that early promise. Game starts 1 p.m.

- EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Eli Manning and the Giants play a Redskins team that can now score quickly thanks to Robert Griffin III. This is a game for first place in the NFC East. Game starts 1 p.m.

- CINCINNATI - The Steelers try to extend their success at Paul Brown Stadium and get their first road win against the Cincinnati Bengals, who have lost their last two games. Game starts 8:20 p.m.

- EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The NFL players' union might challenge former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue as the appeals officer in the Saints' bounties case, the AP is told.

- Alabama is No. 1 in the AP's college football poll for the eighth straight week. The Crimson Tide is followed by Oregon, Florida, Kansas State and Notre Dame.

- INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever are one win from their first WNBA title. They lead the defending champion Minnesota Lynx 2-1 entering Game 4 of the best-of-five series. Game starts 8 p.m.

- KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The sixth of 10 races in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Brad Keselowski, winner of two of the first four Chase races, has a seven-point lead.

- ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Davis Love III tries to become the first player in 17 years to win a PGA Tour after being Ryder Cup captain. He's tied for the lead in the McGladrey Classic with Jim Furyk.

- LUXEMBOURG - Venus Williams, playing in her first final in almost 2 1/2 years, defeats Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-2, 6-3 for the Luxembourg Open title.

- AUSTIN, Texas - Lance Armstrong greets more than 4,000 cyclists at a charity fundraiser. Cycling authorities announce Monday if they will appeal his lifetime ban and loss of seven Tour de France titles.
