- OAKLAND, Calif. - Peyton Manning and the AFC West champion Denver Broncos go for their eighth straight win when they visit an Oakland Raiders team on a five-game losing streak. Game starts 8:20 p.m.

- NEW YORK - The NHL and union plan to resume talks a day after another long session of negotiations offered hope for a breakthrough in ending a lockout that has scrapped games through mid-December.

- NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Baseball's winter meetings break up, with the futures of slugger Josh Hamilton and pitcher Zack Greinke still unclear.

- MIAMI - The Miami Heat, smarting from a loss to dismal Washington, play the Knicks with first place in the Eastern Conference on the line. Game starts 8 p.m.

- PHOENIX - The Suns play the Mavericks, with a unique promotion. Fans not completely satisfied with their experience, whether the home team wins or loses, get their money back. Game starts 10:30 p.m.

- ASHBURN, Va. - In any other year, Redskins running back Alfred Morris would be taking the NFL by storm. Instead, he's eclipsed by the supernova known as Robert Griffin III - and he doesn't mind at all.

- MADISON, Wis. - Ex-Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez will coach the Badgers when they face Stanford in the Rose Bowl. The announcement comes two days after Bret Bielema left for Arkansas.

- LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Charlie Strong will stay as Louisville's football coach, turning down an offer from Tennessee. The No. 22 Cardinals will play Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

- BLUE RIDGE, Texas - Funeral is held for Kasandra Perkins, the slain girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher.

- LAUSANNE, Switzerland - The 2020 European Championship will be played in several countries across the continent. A decision on the number of host cities and nations is expected in 2014.
