Bombs exploding at the finish line of the Boston Marathon seized the day's news cycle, and with the tragedy people took to social media to voice their shock and best wishes.
Athletes were no different. Players and former players from the Redskins, Wizards, Capitals and D.C. United all expressed their thoughts and concerns for those affected in Boston and around the world via Twitter.

According to the Boston Marathon website, 171 runners from D.C. took part in the marathon. Maryland had 448 entrants and Virginia had 654.
