In the coming weeks, Redskins reporters Rich Tandler and Tarik El-Bashir will take a look at the Redskins’ rookies, grade their performance in 2012 and take a look at their future prospects.

Today, we’re examining guard Adam Gettis.

Drafted: Fifth round (141st overall).

Stats: Did not play.

2012: Gettis was inactive for all 16 games this season, but it’s possible, if not likely, that the Iowa product will move up the depth chart this offseason due to roster turnover. Gettis (6-2, 292) is quick and athletic and could eventually thrive in Coach Mike Shanahan’s zone blocking scheme, which puts a premium on mobility.

Prospects: Gettis was listed all season as the backup to right guard Chris Chester, a steady veteran who did not miss a game in 2012 and is signed for another three seasons. But there could be an opening on the opposite side of the line if starting left guard Kory Lichtensteiger, an unrestricted free agent, does not return. If that happens, Gettis could find himself competing with fellow backup Josh LeRibeus for playing time in 2013.
