Hall sustains back injury, preliminary diagnosis is bruise

RICHMOND—Redskins veteran DeAngelo Hall was carted off the field during Sunday’s practice after suffering an injury to his back.

The severity was of the injury was not immediately known, though Head Coach Jay Gruden is scheduled to meet with reporters at 3:50 and is expected to provide a thorough update.

Hall, the team’s starting left cornerback and best defensive back, landed on his back while defending a pass. According to team spokesman who was briefed by the team’s medical staff, Hall is currently being evaluated. The spokesman also said the injury could be a bruise.

In addition, Brian Orakpo did not practice due to quad muscle strain, while Jordan Reed missed his second straight practice with an illness. Meantime, Darryl Sharpton, Silas Redd, Phillip Thomas (hamstring), Chris Thompson (ankle) and Ryan Clark (hamstring) also sat out. It was not immediately clear what was ailing Sharpton and Redd. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson (ankle) was limited.
