Michael Sam will take a physical for the Cowboys on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. If Sam passes he will then be signed to the practice squad.
The defensive end was cut by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday and was not awarded a spot on their 10-player practice squad. The seventh-round pick showed promise during the preseason registering 11 tackles and three sacks.
Up to this point no teams had offered Sam a spot on their practice squad. The prevailing thought has been that most teams don't want to deal with the media attention that comes with having the NFL's first openly gay player on their roster.
The Cowboys have several needs on defense and earlier this week they placed rookie defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence on injured reserve with the designated to return tag. Dallas could end up being the perfect landing spot for Sam.
