The Redskins report to Richmond today to begin training camp, and though little official work will get done, the 2014 season is officially underway. While this Redskins campaign does not lack for story lines, a few stand out above the rest.
- Of paramount importance to the team, will quarterback Robert Griffin III return to his rookie form, which delivered Washington a division title?
- What to make of the addition of wide receiver DeSean Jackson?
Looking at each question, as RG3 goes, so go the 'Skins. At his best, Washington can win any game they play, but when accuracy issues pop up or Griffin looks hesitant, the Skins struggle. A year removed from a season marred by returning from a knee injury, a healthy Griffin could return Washington to the competition of the NFC East title.
Jackson's story is much more personal than Griffin's. Released by Philadelphia, a series of questions emerged about D-Jax personal life, including allegations of gang ties in his hometown of Los Angeles. In his brief time in D.C., Jackson has been a solid citizen, and said all the right things. All eyes will be on DeSean though, especially when Washington goes to visit the Eagles in Week 3.
There are many other stories to follow for the Redskins in Richmond. Will the defense improve? What about special teams? Any lingering injury for Jason Hatcher? How will Jay Gruden perform as a first year head coach?
