Barry Cofield has not participated in OTAs to date because of hernia surgery earlier in the year but there are signs that he is getting back to good health.
On Wednesday he participated in individual drills, something he had not done so far this offseason. When activities switched to 11 on 11 work took off his helmet and did some work on the side with other injured players.
Jay Gruden was pleased with Cofield’s progress but he wants to remain cautious. “He’s further along than I think he anticipated even, and I think the trainers, I think you’re right, but we’re still going to obviously modify what he’s doing and make sure he is full-go before he’s ready,” said Gruden. “He’s champing at the bit to get back out there but we have to probably pull him back a bit and make sure he’s 100 percent ready for training camp.”
Cofield has been very durable during his NFL career. He has not missed a game in his three seasons in Washington and he missed just one in his five previous seasons with the Giants.
