The Redskins’ kicking competition will come down to one final audition Thursday night in Tampa, according to Coach Jay Gruden.
Incumbent Kai Forbath and rookie Zach Hocker are in a virtual dead heat after three preseason games, and Gruden said he believes both can do the job. But he also acknowledged that it’s going to be one or the other, not both.
“That’s another tight battle,” Gruden said. "Both of them have done a very good job in my opinion. I don’t think we can go wrong either way with a place kicker. Unfortunately, we’ll probably have to choose one.”
Forbath is 3 of 4 on field goals and has forced one touchback on six kickoffs. Hocker is 2 of 2 on field goals and has notched two touchbacks on six kickoffs.
It "will come down Thursday night,” Gruden said. “I like both of them. I feel good about kicking with both of them in a game. So that will be a tough call.”
