The Redskins have released defensive lineman Brandon Moore, according to reports. The NFL announced earlier that Moore would be suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
The release ends a brief stint with the Redskins. They claimed him off of waivers from the Chiefs on March 24. Two weeks later the NFL announced the suspension.
Given that Moore is a marginal prospect, this was the smart move to make. If he had been seriously injured at the team facility during the offseason program or training camp, the team could have been on the hook for his entire 2014 salary. The potential reward for a play who would miss the first four games was clearly not worth the risk.
The move was first reported by Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
