RICHMOND--Redskins cornerback Richard Crawford, who missed all of last season with a serious knee injury, recently received medical clearance to return, a source with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.

Crawford was cleared by Dr. James Andrews about two weeks ago. As a result, he's expected to be a full participant when training camp opens Thursday morning at the Bon Secours Training Center.

Crawford, who turns 24 on Aug. 1, is in the mix for a spot as a reserve. Ahead of him on the depth chart are DeAngelo Hall, David Amerson, Tracy Porter, E.J. Biggers and rookie Bashaud Breeland. If the Redskins keep five corners as they did a year ago, Crawford will need to displace someone in order to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

Crawford could help his case if he performs well in the competition for the punt return job.

The 2012 seventh round draft pick tore multiple ligaments in his left knee while returning a punt last preseason and spent the 2013 season on injured reserve.
