The Redskins went up against Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett in the preseason opener as Tom Brady sat out. There is a chance they will face Mallett again a week although the odds are against it.
But Mallett will be on the other sideline on September 7 when the Redskins open their season in Houston. According to multiple media reports New England has traded Mallett, their third-round pick in 2011, to the Texans. One report stated that the Patriots will get a sixth-round pick as compensation.
Mallett did not see much action as Brady’s backup. He has attempted just four passes in the regular season.
Although Mallett could well end up starting for the Texans at some point this year it is unlikely that he will be the starter next Sunday. That job is likely to belong to Ryan Fitzpatrick, who Texans coach Bill O’Brien tabbed as the starter during minicamp.
