Post-game analysis of the Capitals’ 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.:
A little more than a week ago, the Capitals’ penalty killing units were practically invincible, humming along with 14 consecutive kills over a six-game stretch to improve to 13th in the NHL.
The picture in front of him was less than appealing – no coach wants to see his team blow a two-goal lead in the third period -- so Capitals coach Barry Trotz chose to look at the big one.
Just when things appeared to be moving in the wrong direction for Washington, Nicklas Backstrom's goal lifted Washington over Carolina.
