Comcast SportsNet's Chick Hernandez has been named the 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Terrapin Award by the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism, honoring his work as a sports journalist who graduated from the school.

Hernandez is an anchor and reporter at CSN, and of host the Emmy-winning Redskins Kickoff and Redskins Postgame Live shows. Prior to joining Comcast SportsNet, Hernandez worked with Fox SportsNet and spent seven years at FOX-5 WTTG in Washington. Hernandez joins fellow Terps Bonnie Bernstein, Scott Van Pelt and Christy Winters-Scott as recipients of the Distinguished Terrapin Award. He will receive the honor during a Nov. 5 luncheon at the University of Maryland.

“This is a very well-deserved honor for Chick; he’s a talented professional whose dedication, versatility and knowledge are respected by his co-workers, emulated by his colleagues and appreciated by his audience,” CSN President Rebecca Schulte said. “He’s been a great asset to this region for nearly two decades and has played a major role in our network’s success for more than 12 years.”
