SPECIAL PROGRAMMING TO FEATURE PROMINENT SPORTS FIGURES THROUGHOUT FEBRUARY
Bethesda, Md. (Jan. 31, 2014) – Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic will celebrate Black History Month with a variety of special content that will cover a range of compelling topics and prominent figures throughout February.
Presented by McDonald’s, the network’s month-long observance will be highlighted by SportsNet in Focus: Comcast SportsNet Celebrates Black History Month, which will premiere Feb. 2. Hosted by Keli Fulton, the original program will profile three remarkable sports figures with ties to the region: Larry Hill, Malcolm Durham and Damian Prince.
A native of Washington, D.C., Hill was the second African-American football official in the Atlantic Coast Conference and the first to serve as a replay official for the Super Bowl. Durham, a longtime Washington, D.C., resident, was a top drag racer in the 1960s and is considered the sport’s first African-American superstar. Prince, a senior lineman at Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Md., overcame a personal tragedy to become one of the nation’s top college football recruits.
In addition to its Feb. 2 premiere (9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.), SportsNet in Focus: Comcast SportsNet Celebrates Black History Month will be presented multiple times in February. Encore dates and times include Feb. 9 at 12 a.m., Feb. 12 at 7 p.m., Feb. 16 at 9:30 a.m., Feb. 17 at 9:30 p.m., Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.
Throughout February, Comcast SportsNet will also present special Black History Month-themed vignettes and feature stories on Friday editions ofGeico SportsNet Central as part of the show’s “Friday Night Feature” series.
As part of the celebration, Comcast SportsNet will also provide encores of My Life 365 episodes featuring John Thompson Jr., Sheila Johnson, James Brown, Dominique Dawes and Jonathan Ogden. In addition, the network will re-air Table Manners with the Junkies with guests Walt Williams, Pierre Garcon, Brian Orakpo and Fred Smoot, as well as episodes of Halls of Fame, My Life, ‘net Impact and The Game 365.
