Kevin Durant posted an Instagram photo of himself wearing a reddish-brown beard, captioned simply 'beard gang.'
With few context clues, there's no way of knowing his facial hair muse, but we couldn't help but note a resemblance to surging sluggers Jayson Werth and Adam LaRoche. The post went up around 10 p.m. EST while the Nationals were playing the Rockies at Coors Field (a game they won thanks to a three-run homer by LaRoche).
Kevin Durant's D.C. roots are well-documented, inspiring plenty of wishful speculation that the NBA MVP could join the Washington Wizards in 2016. Recent moves by the organization leave plenty of financial flexibility for 2016, adding an air of credibility to the city's dream of landing their homegrown superstar.
Maybe the Slim Reaper is closer to joining the Nationals' 'beard gang' than the Wizards frontcourt. He's a big-time Nats fan -- look closely and you can see a curly W tattooed on his stomach.
So what's the bearded K.D. trying to tell us? Probably nothing.
If there's one thing we know for sure, though, it's that the facial hair game has a new MVP:
