Wizards fans, no matter your opinion of LeBron James, this is one time you want to hear him out.
More importantly, you want Kevin Durant to take his advice.
On Thursday, The Oklahoman posted a column on Durant, who led the NBA in scoring this season for the fourth time in five years. The unfair headline read, "Mr. Unreliable." Reaction followed and nearly all of it came in full-throated support of the league's likely MVP this season.
On Friday, James, a notable basketball player in his own right, was apparently asked about the Durant headline and offered the following response.
LeBron came to Durant's defense on Mr. Unreliable headline: "He's got to become a free agent one day."— Michael Wallace (@WallaceNBA_ESPN) May 2, 2014
That's not exactly the same as telling Durant to take his talents elsewhere, but certainly a suggestion that the D.C. area native should gauge his open market value. The Oklahoma City Thunder's star contract expires following the 2015-16 season.
We all know James famously took the free agency plunge in the summer of 2012. Wizards fans dreaming of Durant playing his home games at the Verizon Center hope he follows James' lead. Just skip "The Decision" part.
