As CSN first reported last week, the Wizards are off to visit with Trevor Ariza late Monday -- his 29th birthday -- to hopefully persuade him as the free-agent signing period opens Tuesday.
Coach Randy Wittman and Tommy Sheppard, senior vice president of basketball operations, just returned from Poland to make their pitch to Marcin Gortat. The Wizards making a similar run at Ariza, who is an unrestricted free agent like Gortat and is expected to have many suitors, with Wittman and another member of the front office staff.
In both instances, the players are being shown video highlight packages of their exploits with the Wizards in hopes of convincing them that they belong here.
The Wizards won 44 games and advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in nine years, which helps their chances.
Based on CBA rules, they can offer both players a maximum of four years -- one more than any other team can as each player will be well past 30 after this contract.
