Maryland basketball coach Mark Turgeon has already shown a knack for recruiting in his brief tenure in College Park and now he has landed another big-time local prospect.
Bishop O’Connell junior guard Melo Trimble (Arlington, VA) has committed to the University of Maryland, making the announcement on Thursday morning. He chose to officially share the news on his mother’s birthday.
Trimble, a member of the AAU powerhouse DC Assault, heads to Maryland as part of Turgeon’s 2014 class. He follows in the footsteps of fan-favorite Dave Neal who also played for the Terps.
The 6’3” Trimble is rated as a four-star prospect and is considered a combo guard. Rivals.com currently has him listed as the 59th player overall in the 2014 class.
According to Rivals, Trimble also had offers from Miami (FL), Virginia Tech, and Villanova. Georgetown was also in the mix.
Trimble is the first official signing of the Terps' 2014 class as the commitment comes much earlier than most players decide.
