Alex Ovechkin said he will be in the lineup tonight when the Capitals face the Montreal Canadiens at the Verizon Center.
"It felt much better," Ovechkin said. "We tried a couple days ago and I didn't feel well. Today I feel normal."
Ovechkin tried skating for about five minutes wearing shorts and gloves and carrying a stick. Then he participated in the Capitals morning skate for another 15 minutes.
He came off early both times, but deemed himself ready to play.
"Right now I feel normal and ready to go."
Ovechkin missed Wednesday night's game in Ottawa with his injury, which is believed to be a groin pull.
Asked what needs to change in the Capitals' final 22 games, Ovechkin said, "We need to win. We need to play better offensively, defensively. We can't point to one guy and say if not for his mistake we win the game, especially in this situation. We can't give up."
In other news, goaltender Michal Neuvirth will get his first home start since Dec. 20.
And Capitals top prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov was carried off the ice on a stretcher during a game in Russia's KHL Thursday night.
More to come...
