FISHING REPORT: Fish on drops!

Last week was a great week to get out. Warm weather and cold water. Fish were on drops in about 8 feet of water!

Water should remain in the 38-43 degree range. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, “A warm wet start to the week with temps dropping back to where they should be this time of the year, mid 40s except Christmas Day with a high only in the mid 30s. Partly sunny skies all week, light winds. Overnights below freezing!”

If you can squeeze a day or two on the water, slow down! Silver Buddy lures on GAMMA 12-pound test fluorocarbon line, slightly burped off the bottom. Lift, let sit. Some bites are a tick, others just weight. Position your rod for short notice hooksets, ready when lifting!

Next drag MIZMO 4-inch and Mann's Stingray 3-inch grubs rigged on a ¼-ounce ball head jig head very slowly on the bottom with frequent stops. Use 6-pound test and a soaking in Jack's Juice garlic bait spray.  Lift and lower the rod to allow these to glide. All presentations should be horizontal!

Another bait to fish the same way is the Punisher Hair jig. Try shaking these baits too! Hooksets are tricky! Thick skinned mouths this time of year make hook penetration difficult!

Keep hooks sharpened and use these open hook baits. Keeping pressure on fish will keep the points in the fish. Many times hooks aren't in past the barb, so don't give the fish any slack!

Fish areas out of the current with steep drops. Also look for clearer water. If the water warms to 45 degrees, try suspending Lucky Craft Pointer 78 Jerkbaits in Blue Plains or Four Mile run.
