Fishing on the Potomac

Last week more fish moved up shallow and water temperatures stayed in the mid to upper 60s. But heavy rains finally muddied the Potomac by the end of the week.

Another great week of fishing on the way with soft plastics leading the way. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, “A cool start to a warm week, with highs on Monday under sunny skies around 60. A gradual warm up to 80 by Thursday with partly cloudy skies before Friday cools a few degrees with a weak front providing a slight chance of thunderstorms and showers into the weekend.”

River Shotting, a heavy drop shot, with 20-pound Gamma Torque braid with a 14-pound test Gamma Edge Fluorocarbon leader, is producing nice bass! A Mustad size 1 Mega Bite worm hook with a centipede soaked in Jack's Juice garlic bait spray slowly worked in spawning areas will continue to work on spawners! Work and let sit, very slowly...take your time!

Mann's Baby 1-Minus is doing well over cover at lower tides. This bait also catching Snakeheads! Lucky Craft LV 500 lipless cranks dragged over gravel banks near creek mouths and in spawning areas with 14-pound test GAMMA Edge Fluorocarbon still locates fish. Over grass, try the lighter LVR D-7. On clear days, go with shad or chartreuse patterns. Gold or red for cloudy days. Carolina Rigs with a ¾ ounce Round Valley Tungsten weight and a braid main line with 14 pound test Edge leader tied to a Mustad Mega Bite hook and a HardNose lizard is a great way to follow up the lipless cranks.

Green pumpkin MIZMO tubes, Texas rigged with 3/16-ounce weight pitched to docks, sea walls and grass clumps are also working.
