NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed on SiriusXM NFL Radio that the league is weighing punishment for Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall after his profanity-laced outburst directed at an official Sunday.

“Our football operations staff are looking at that,” Goodell told Adam Schein and Rich Gannon on SiriusXM Blitz on Wednesday afternoon. “I got a briefing this morning on it. They’re going through the process of evaluating, getting all of the information, and they’ll be making a decision on that either today or tomorrow, I believe.”

Asked what he thought of Hall’s verbal assault on head linesman Dana Mckenzie, Goodell said there’s no room in the game for disrespecting officials. On Tuesday, Hall defended himself on the Lavar and Dukes show on 106.7, saying Mckenzie was “equally at fault” and was “dishing” out comments during the confrontation.

“That’s the point of our rules here, Adam,” Goodell said. “There’s respect for people who are playing the game, coaching the game and officiating the game. It’s critical that we have that. It’s not only respect for the game and the people who are involved, but also sportsmanship. We want to make sure that we maintain that. That’s not what football is about.”

Goodell added:  “We’re not suggesting that everyone is going to agree with every officiating call on the field. But there’s a way to do that. And there’s a way not to do it. We have very strong rules in this area and we’re going to enforce them aggressively.”
