What's the latest on the Redskins coaching search?

The Redskins’ list of head coaching candidates keeps growing.

The team has requested permission to interview 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to be their next coach, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 55-year-old Fangio has been with the 49ers since 2011. He came to San Francisco from Stanford in 2011 along with head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Fangio guided a 49ers defense that finished the year ranked fifth in yards allowed and third in points. During Fangio’s three years in San Francisco the team has finished in the top five in the NFL in both of those categories.

Fangio has plenty of NFL experience. He was at Stanford for just a year. Prior to that he was an defensive assistant at a variety of NFL stops including defensive coordinator positions with the Panthers, Colts, and Texans.
