The Redskins are set to host free agent cornerback Antoine Winfield on Wednesday, according to a report.
Winfield, who turns 36 in June, was released by the Vikings two weeks ago. He was the top rated cornerback in the NFL last season, according to ProFootballFocus, which credits the veteran as having not allowed a passing touchdown in 2012.
The Redskins signed former Buccaneer E.J. Biggers last week, but the team still is in need of experience on the backend. Following the release of DeAngelo Hall and decision not to re-sign Cedric Griffin, the only corners on the roster with any starting experience are Biggers and Josh Wilson.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported Winfield’s scheduled visit at Redskins Park. Rapoport also says the Vikings and as many as two other teams are interested in Winfield.
Winfield had 10 tackles and an interception when the Vikings visited FedEx Field last October.
