Everyone is familiar with the Redskins’ stars, players like Robert Griffin III, Alfred Morris and Brian Orakpo. But who are the blue-collar guys that don’t get enough recognition? Over the next week, reported Tarik El-Bashir will take a look at five Redskins who fly under the radar.
Name/Age: E.J. Biggers/26
Position/experience: CB-S/Five seasons
Contract status: Unrestricted free agent
Why he’s notable: In his first season with the Redskins, Biggers filled a couple of important roles in 2013.
Although a reserve cornerback by trade, he also spent time playing safety due to injuries as well as a lack of depth and athleticism at the position. He’s clearly better suited to playing corner, but his versatility and willingness to line up a position he had not played since high school was appreciated by the coaching staff.
Biggers finished with 35 tackles and an interception. According to ProFootballFocus.com, he surrendered two passing touchdowns. He also contributed on special teams, making three tackles.
The Redskins will have plenty of options on the open market. But there are a number of reasons they’ve already shown interest in re-signing Biggers: He gives good effort, has a high football I.Q. and is a good teammate. In other words, there's a good chance he'll return as a backup in 2014.
