MONTREAL -- Nicklas Backstrom skated on a top line with Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson at the Capitals’ practice Friday afternoon at the Bell Centre, seemingly unaffected by a shot he took on the left arm Thursday night in Ottawa.

Backstrom did not play the final seven minutes of the Caps’ 3-1 loss to Ottawa after a shot from Mike Green struck him in the arm.

Green said Backstrom was left with a pretty bad bruise but the top-line center appeared to be fine at Friday’s practice, taking part in every drill.

Backstrom leads the Capitals with 38 assists and is second behind Alex Ovechkin with 44 points in 45 games. He has not missed a game all season.

The Capitals’ other forward lines and defense pairings remained unchanged from Thursday night:

Marcus Johansson-Nicklas Backstrom-Alex Ovechkin

Marty Erat-Mike Ribeiro-Troy Brouwer

Jason Chimera-Mathieu Petreault-Eric Fehr

Aaron Volpatti/Wojtek Wolski-Jay Beagle-Matt Hendricks

Defense pairings

Karl Alzner-Mike Green

John Erskine-John Carlson

Jack Hillen-Steve Oleksy

Jeff Schultz-Tom Poti

Injury update: Troy Brouwer [bruised left knee] and Brooks Laich [groin] remained in D.C. to rehab their injuries.

Waiting for Mr. Wilson: Tom Wilson’s Plymouth Whalers will begin their best-of-seven Memorial Cup Finals against Dale Hunter’s London Knights tonight, which means the Capitals won’t be able to add their top prospect until after the Whalers complete their series.

In 48 games with Plymouth this season, Wilson recorded 23 goals and 35 assists with a plus-36 and 104 penalty minutes.
