Sweden escaped with a 1-0 win over Switzerland on Friday morning after a long battle of blocked shots and terrific goaltending by Henrik Lundqvist and Reto Berra. In the end it was a simple mistake by Berra that cost Switzerland the game, as Lundqvist saved a perfect 26 of 26 shots on goal.

Early it looked like Switzerland was setting the tone with 13 shots in the first period, that compared to just five on Sweden's behalf. But Lundqvist weathered the barrage and Sweden responded with 17 shots on goal in the second period, and nine more in the third including Daniel Alfredsson's goal to win the game.

Sweden is now 2-0 in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

--Alfredsson's goal, his first of the 2014 Olympics, came 12:39 into the third period. Erik Karlsson fired a shot to the net from the boards, a puck that struck Berra in the chest. The netminder, however, gave up a juicy rebound right in the crease, perfectly timed for Alfredsson who was skating through the middle of the offensive zone. He snapped a quick shot into the back of the net, giving Sweden the breakthrough they needed.

--Both Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson saw plenty of action, though neither were involved in Alfredsson's goal. Backstrom skated for 20:45 of ice time and recorded two shots on goal. Switzerland was relentless in blocking shots and got in the way of several of Backstrom's attempts. Johansson saw 7:36 of ice time and also recorded a shot on goal, a rebound attempt in the first period on the left side of Berra.
