Oates: "We're going through a lousy stretch right now"

(Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports)

With seven losses in his team’s last nine games, Capitals coach Adam Oates did some more line shuffling at Monday’s practice.

Oates moved Brooks Laich onto a “top’ line with center Nicklas Backstrom and right wing Troy Brouwer, and moved Marcus Johansson onto a third line between wingers Jason Chimera and Joel Ward.

The “second” line of Mikhail Grabovski between let wing Eric Fehr and right wing Alex Ovechkin remained intact, but Fehr left the ice about an hour into practice after getting slammed hard into the boards. Fehr took a stick to the lip and a team spokesman said he was OK.

The fourth line had a combination of Marty Erat, Jay Beagle, Tom Wilson, Aaron Volpatti and Michael Latta [injured reserve].

The Caps ended their practice with a brisk conditioning skate.
