By most accounts Robert Griffin III did not look great on the first day of Redskins training camp in Richmond. It was raining, and Griffin will likely need a little time to reconnect with his receivers. Inaccuracy on the first day of training camp is largely irrelevant, it's July after all. What is relevant? New coach Jay Gruden providing honest insight on Griffin's play.
"It was a little erratic," Gruden said of RG3. "But I think he’ll be the first to tell you he needs to improve and I’ll be the second to tell you he needs to improve. That’s going to be the case every day, I’m sure of that."
A coach expecting improvement out of his quarterback is not a story; every coach wants improvement from their QB. What is a story, and maybe refreshing for Washington, is Gruden speaking openly about Griffin. Dialogue between RG3 and the coaches led to a dark place in 2013, and improved communication in 2014 could be one step to a better season.
What was your reaction to Gruden's comments? Happy to see it or a bit surprised? Let us know in the comments.
