RICHMOND—The Redskins have signed free agent safety Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith, who had split the previous three seasons between the Steelers’ active roster and practice squad.
To make room for Cromartie-Smith, the Redskins waived cornerback Peyton Thompson, who struggled in Thursday’s victory over the Patriots.
Cromartie-Smith, who is listed at 6-2, 203-pounds, appeared in 10 games for the Steelers from 2011-2013, amassing four tackles. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of UTEP.
He’s the cousin of Antonio Cromartie (Cardinals) and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Giants) and younger brother of former NFL fullback Terrelle Smith.
